Once upon a time I had long hair all the way down to my waist so I can tell you from my own experience. I shampooed, had conditioner in packs and everything. I wanted my hair to be tip top! As soon as it dried, the curls would frizz out in all directions so I used various styling products that would then be washed out... and so it went on. This was when I was young ;)
Now I have some length again, not down to my waist though. But I have discovered a completely different trick.... to wash my hair less often. I now only wash my hair about once every three weeks and it has never looked better. Since I have completely switched to natural/eco I don't have to worry about various silicones that build coatings on the scalp. My scalp feels great and the curls shape up wonderfully after a few days without washing.
My hairy plan is to schedule a wash several days before I go to an event that requires me to look good in my hair, that's when the hair behaves at its best. I don't even need all the styling products because then my hair tames itself. Maybe a small amount of hair wax the first few days mostly to tame the frizz. I rinse my hair every now and then and let it dry on its own. It turns out great. The quality of my hair has improved and I'm completely convinced that it's because I don't dry it out unnecessarily. It nourishes itself with its own body fat that comes out of the body. It may sound disgusting, but the fact is that it can balance itself better that way. Most often, various scalp problems are due to imbalances in the scalp caused by perhaps too frequent washing with too strong products. The less I fix my hair, the better it feels and it's clearly visible.
Tips for a hairy plan haha:
Choose a mild shampoo with a suitable conditioner. Wash less often than you think you need. Start by not washing your hair for two weeks. Then wash thoroughly and moisturize with conditioner. If you need to style, choose natural/organic alternatives that you can easily rinse out of your hair the next time you shower without having to wash it through. Cutting back on washing will save both your skin, hair and wallet. Worth a try :)
