Baking soda can be used for hundreds of things besides baking. And unlike other cleaning products, it is a completely natural product that is even produced in our bodies. Baking soda does not contain any corrosive substances and is completely non-toxic – and compared to other products, it is very affordable. So why not clean your home a little more naturally with baking soda?
Take some baking soda on a damp cloth and wipe down the surfaces in the kitchen or bathroom. It is very easy to unclog a drain with baking soda and water. Boil four deciliters of water. Pour two deciliters of baking soda down the drain and then boiling water on top of it. For super-clogged drains, add one deciliter of baking soda down the drain and follow up with an equal amount of vinegar. Then cover the drain with a small dish or pot until the bubbling subsides. Pour boiling water over it again. Repeat if necessary.
Make a paste of baking soda and a few drops of water to clean your tiles with a sponge. Baking soda also works well to clean your sink or fridge and freezer. Baking soda also helps neutralize unpleasant odors in your fridge and freezer.
Burnt-on food can be difficult to remove from pots and pans. But there's a quick and easy trick that will get them sparkling clean in no time. All you need is water and baking soda. Pour the water and baking soda into the pot and bring to the boil. Let it cool, then pour out the water and wash it clean.
Clean the oven with baking soda, vinegar and steel wool.
You will also need a spray bottle, gloves and a damp cloth. Start by removing the oven racks. Then fill the spray bottle with vinegar and spray the inside of the oven. Sprinkle extra baking soda on the dirtiest parts. It will then start to bubble. Leave it for a few minutes to up to an hour. After that, put on the gloves and scrub with steel wool and use the damp cloth to wipe away. Be sure to wipe the entire oven to remove all residue.
